   Year 3 Blog.

Friday 13th July

How is it our penultimate week in Y3? This year has gone incredibly fast, it’s scary! This week has been another gloriously hot summer’s week and we ask that you continue to send your child in with the appropriate protections, such as:

  • Sun-cream
  • A peaked hat
  • Sunglasses ( if you child suffers from hay fever)

In our writing, we have been writing a character and setting description on Grandpa and Tony, two characters from a Literacy Shed video. We have been planning our sentences in our jotters then editing and improving, reading aloud before writing them in our English books. We are learning how important it is to proof read and edit our writing as it’s incredibly rare that our first sentence is ever our best.

Well done to Maddie who wrote:

Tony’s ocean blue eyes were round and glimmering with excitement.

Cayden wrote:

His loose, denim dungarees hung loosely off his small, bony body as he trudged through the woods.

In Maths, we have been making the most of two weeks of consolidation time by practising different areas of the maths curriculum. We have split into small groups and practised telling the time, times tables and place value. The children were grouped depending upon what they feel they need to practise the most.

On Thursday, we had an extra PE lesson on the field as a reward for how well we sang during the KS2 performance. I would like to say a huge thank you to all the parents who came and watched or brought back your child for the evening performance. We were a few singers short, but I think you’ll agree that the children sang beautifully.

We have got lots of exciting things planned for the last week of Y3. We have the POP project in on Tuesday, awards assembly, school disco and much more. We are going to have such a ball in our final week of school.

Just a few polite reminders for the forthcoming weeks:

  • PE  for the next three weeks will now be back to a Friday– so can all PE kits (both indoor and outdoor) be in school on this day please?
  • Tuck money – In KS2, children are responsible for ordering and paying for their own tuck. Where possible, can children have the correct money (or as close as) in order for break time to go as smoothly as possible? It is 15p for toast and 15p for milk.
  • Can all children be reading three times per week at home please. Reading at home is essential in aiding us to become bettwe writers. This can be the school book they bring home, the book they've loaned from our library or a book of their choice from home. This way we can fill our bookmarks and win the KS2 prize!

I hope you have a lovely weekend and we are looking forward to seeing you next week.

Miss Green, Mrs Higson and Mrs Owen.
