Welcome to Year 1

Friday 8th July

This week we were lucky enough to be visited by Manchester Metropolitan Police, they cam e in to school to talk about staying safe over the summer hoildays. Whilst they were in school they visited each class with one of their working sniffer dogs Charlie.

In P.E this week we have been playing Dodgeball ball, we have decided that next week - in our last P.E lesson of the year we would like to hold our very own Dodgeball tournament in teams of six!

The wait was finally over on Thursday when we went on our eagerly awaited trip to Blackpool Zoo. We had a fantastic day. We managed to see everything the zoo had to offer, even managing to visit some animals more than once (Miss Crosbie’s favourites, the otters being one of the more frequently visited animals!). Whilst at the Zoo we went to the Zoo Classroom where we learnt more about hot and cold habitats around the world. When in the classroom we also got the opportunity to meet a Bearded Dragon called Puffy! Take a look at our photographs below.

There are only 8 school days left so a few reminders . . . We have rescheduled Sports Day, this will be held on the morning of Friday 15th July (weather dependent). On Monday 18th July we will be taking part in ‘WWF Wear it Wild’ to raise money for endangered animals, children will be able to come to school in animal prints! Our annual end of year party will also be held in the afternoon of Monday 18th July so children will be able to change in to their party clothes after lunch.

Hope you have had a lovely weekend,

Miss Crosbie & Mrs Mills

Our Key Stage 1 Library is open to children after school every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 3.30pm to 4pm. We have spent lots of money on some wonderful books - there's a wide range of fiction and non-fiction books, there's even a nice selection of young readers for any little brothers or sisters that would like to join the library! We hope to see you there next week.

It is staring to get a little warmer and children are outside at one of the hottest parts of the day. Please make sure that your child has a sun hat and sun cream if needed. Now that the sun is out jumpers and cardigans are often taken of at dinner . . . please make sure that your child's uniform is clearly labelled with their full name!

P.E lessons are timetabled for every Wednesday afternoon. Please make sure all items of kit are labelled with your child's full name.

Reading at home is extremely important - just five minutes a day can make a massive difference! It doesn't have to be a school reading book, it can be anything that your child finds interesting to read. Don't forget to write in your child's planner each time you read they will get a stamp on their reading challenge bookmark. The first three children to fill their bookmark will receive a prize.

Please continue to practise number formation - the rhymes below will help you.
