Year 5 2018/19
Friday 12th October
Welcome to Year 5’s Weekly Blog!

In English, we produced some fantastic writing linked to Podkin all about the popular game of Fox Paw. We even got a tweet from Kieran Larwood (the author of the book) when we decided to play our own game of it on Friday afternoon. We spent to the week planning our writing and together we composed a really gripping and exciting piece of work.

We all finished our Viking podcasts this week HOORAY! On Monday, we also looked at Isaac Newton’s laws of motion in order to better understand our science topic of ‘forces’. The children have really enjoyed the practical element of our lessons but it was also important to put some theory behind our work.

In Maths, we finished our ‘Place Value’ assessment. I am pleased to say the children did really well and it was nice to see so many high scores. We have continued to work on our problem solving skills and looking in to the deeper meaning of questions.

Lots of children have continued to practise for this year’s ‘Off by Heart’ competition. It is so lovely to hear that a lot of children have already chosen their poem and a few of the girls know 10 of the paragraphs off by heart!! Poetry Week starts on Monday!

Final note, it is Parents Evening Monday/Tuesday next week. I am looking forward to meeting all the parents and discussing the children’s progress and targets moving forward.
