Mrs Alison Davies
Welcome to Lowton Junior and Infant School, encouraging growth at every stage of your child’s development.
Friday 28th April
We have had another busy week in year one.
This week in maths we have been learning more about time. We have focused on telling the time to o’clock and half past the hour. Towards the end of the week have been focusing on problems relating to time using language related to time. Try to encourage your children to tell the time when you’re at home or out and about over the weekend.
In English this week we have been reading The Night Pirates by Peter Harris. After we read the story we were asked to think about the story opening. On Friday we wrote a diary entry in character as Tom, we wrote about what happened on his night time adventure.
In our focused grammar sessions this week we have been learning about suffixes ‘ing’ and ‘ed’. The children were able to use lots of words with an ‘ing’ or ‘ed’ suffix within their diary entry on Friday. The children have been set spellings linked to this week’s grammar sessions, please help your child to learn their spellings, we will be having a spelling test next Friday.
In PE this week we have been learning all about handball, netball and benchball. We have learned that once we have the ball we can’t move with it and how to pivot around on the spot to change direction. Soon we will be applying all these skills to full games.
This week’s pupil of the week is Poppy. She is an amazing role model in the class and she always tries her hardest in everything she does. Well done Poppy!
School will be closed on Monday for Bank Holiday and then again on Thursday for Polling Day.
Have a lovely weekend and see you on Tuesday,
Miss Crosbie, Mrs Kenyon & Mrs Yates
