Welcome back to our year three weekly blog. WC 28.4.17

This week has been times tables week in school. We’ve been working so hard to gain our retrospective times tables bands. Every day we have been working with different members of staff, practising for our assessments on Friday. I would like to say a very big well done to all the children in year three who have moved up a band and who have clearly worked so very hard. In maths, we have also been consolidating our place value knowledge by answering problem solving and reasoning style questions. On Tuesday the 2nd of May we are having a KS2 maths meeting as requested on parents evening discussing the types of problem solving questions your children face during their maths lessons. If you would wish to come along and join the meeting, please fill in your reply slip and send It in with your child.

In English this week we have been practising our descriptive writing, creating our own character and setting. We have been reading examples of wonderful, clear character descriptions and borrowing some of the language used for our own writing. We have really enjoyed bringing our characters to life with specific detail and using expanded noun phrases to allow whoever reads our work to really visualise our characters and where our story is taking place.

We have enjoyed our computing lesson with Miss Myers this week. We have been learning about how to search the internet for the relevant information we require and how we need to be very clear about our searches.

For our spellings this week we have been practising our homophones and learning how to select the appropriate homophone for our sentences. Homophones is an area in spelling most children struggle with so any extra support with spellings this week would be very much appreciated.

School will be closed this week on Monday the 1st of May for the bank holiday and for polling day on the 4th of June.

Hope you all have a lovely long bank holiday.
