Encouraging Growth

Welcome to Lowton Junior and Infant School, encouraging growth at every stage of your child’s development.

 Friday 17th July

Well, it’s finally arrived, the end of the school year! It has been an emotional day for some as we say goodbye to our Year 6 children and wish them all the best at High School. It was a lovely assembly this morning and there were a few tears around. We enjoyed listening to the year 6 children’s memories, some of them were very funny. However, we are all looking forward to the new challenges that lie ahead next year.

On Wednesday we had an amazing (loud!) time at the end of year party. Every class was showing us their finest dancing skills- even Mrs Cross! Aaron T. looked so smart in his three piece suit and pink shirt, he even got to show it off proudly to the Year 6’s; he also won a prize for his super dancing. Tyler and Camden should have won an award too for their non-stop dancing- we’ve never seen such red faces!

Anyway, enjoy the summer break, and we will see you all in September.

Friday 10th July

Hello again everyone,

What a busy week! We have performed our show ‘Cinderella Rockerfella’ three times to an audience this week, and all three shows have been very successful. All the main characters have been well played, (Oh no they haven’t, oh yes they have!) but we couldn’t quite decide which of them was our favourite. The ‘ugly sisters’ were very mean and ugly-(played by Ben and Abigail in Base 6) – so watch out at home Jonathan!

When we haven’t been busy practising and rehearsing we have been discussing some other characters- the unusual, but fun characters in the story ‘The Enchanted Wood.’ We made a tally chart to find out which was our favourite character. Surprisingly, the most popular character was Silky, closely followed by Moonface and Saucepan Man. We have also been creating our own characters that may live in the Enchanted Wood, and using similes and adjectives to describe them in literacy.

On Friday morning this week, Base 3 have been working with Mr Woodford, while Mrs Cross went to work with the Year 1 children in Base 2. Mckenzie enjoyed using the cubes to do some shape work, and everyone wrote in their new English and Maths books. Mr Woodford was very impressed with everyone from Base 3 and we earned lots of base points. Let’s hope our writing is just as good in September.

This week Mrs Blinkhorn has had a very special birthday - she was 60 years old. Congratulations! We all agree she is very kind to us, and even though it was her birthday we all received sweets from her. We do hope she loved reading all the cards that we made.

We are looking forward to our final week.

Friday 3rd July

Phew, what a scorcher!!!!!!

It has been hot, hot, hot in base 3 this week; not only have we all been boiling hot in class but our work has been on fire too!

Mrs Cross was amazed at how fantastic our handwriting was on Thursday and really wants us to show this in all our work. In Maths, we have been learning about how to measure correctly and how to read and understand a measurement scale, (we now know how to measure in millimetres.) In literacy, we have been identifying the main events in our class novel ‘The Enchanted Wood’ by Enid Blyton. Joe, Beth and Franny have now made it to the top of the Faraway tree and reached the roundabout world; we are looking forward to what happens next.

Next week it’s the KS2 end of year play- Cinderella Rockerfella. We have been practicing really hard to learn all the words to the songs, as during the performance we need to sing without any words on the projector. All of the practice days have been great fun, especially as the Ugly sisters have been making us all laugh a lot with their brilliant performances.

In P.E, we have continued with our cricket sessions and this week we had Matty teaching us instead of Tim. Mrs Cross joined in too and was brilliant at it, she whacked a ball way over the field (6 and out!).

Pupil of the week is Tyler Latham for being an excellent example to the other children in the class. He participated brilliantly in all activities and helped other children along when they needed it; and as always he brings a smile to everyone’s day with his humour, well done!

Finally, thank you to the parents who came in to base 3 on Wednesday to view their children’s work, we hope you were pleased with what you saw.

Friday 26th June

Hello to all!

This week’s blog has been written by the non-swimmers in Base Three to show off their writing skills.

We have done amazingly on our assessments and it has been a very tiring, but exciting week and we have worked extremely hard. We have completed our end of year reading and maths assessments, which were quite fun, but very hard.

We have been learning all about bones with Mrs Cross and have been exploring the different bones in our bodies. We were blown away by Jonathan’s rib cage and the fact that some people could hold their shoulder blade!

In our topic work with Miss Reid, we have been looking at flowers and seeds. We watched a video about how plants survive in different habitats and how they germinate. We have also been learning all about photosympathy (Photosynthesis!), the processes used by plants to create their own food. We have also been looking after our beans which are now starting to grow.

Luckily for us, it didn’t rain for Sports Day! The children from the Green Team were the Champions of the day. However, everyone else participated and had a great afternoon. Well done to all.

We have had some Magical Mathematicians in Base Three this week. Amazing Aaron gained his 11s and 12s times table band and Daniel (didn’t want a super nickname!) gained his 8s and 9s band. A massive well done to them both :)

Congratulations to Harry who gained Pupil of the Week for his super attitude and listening skills.

Thank you for reading our blog, we hope you enjoyed finding out about our week. We are looking forward to our weekend, especially Izzy, who is looking forward to home time as she is hungry!

See you on Monday.
Base Three and Miss Reid :)
