Adverse Weather Conditions - Gritting and Clear Access Priorities

Access Priorities

Main path from the front gate to the front entrance, including between the grass verges on the outside of the gate.

Staff car park and path leading to the reception area

Footpaths around the outside of school to each class door

A reasonable path for parents, children and pushchairs on the rear playground leading to each door in Key Stage 1.

All areas above should be gritted whenever there is a risk of air temperature dropping. This should be done the evening before wherever possible.  If this is done in the morning, the process must be completed by 7.30am to allow for the safe arrival of the staff and children.

These areas should then be continually gritted until the risk of ice has passed. They will need checking first thing each morning before the staff and children come onto the premises.

In the event of snow, these pathways should be cleared at least 1 metre wide. In the event of an emergency these pathways will be used as escape routes.

The remainder of the playground will not be cleared of snow. The external visitor car park will not be cleared of snow.
